DescriptionA color poster encouraging enlistment in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. The poster features a large head and shoulders illustration of a U.S. Navy sailor, dressed in a khaki uniform, looking though a submarine periscope while creating a “V” (for victory) with the fingers of his right hand. Below the illustration, yellow and white text reads: "smack the japs! / VOLUNTEER FOR SUBMARINE SERVICE.”

The poster was printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office, poster no. 1944—O-566105.
