DescriptionA British World War II propaganda poster. The color poster consists of two separate cartoon-like illustrations. In the left panel is an image of a merchant ship on open water being manned by six visible sailors all involved in various forms of relaxation. The panel on the right shows the same vessel, but now with fire destroying the front half of the ship and black smoke spewing into the sky. Black text on the two panels reads, from left to right: "Nobody realized, — / until it was too late," – said the master. Both panels have the artist's facsimile initials and the date JE 1941.
