DescriptionA "sun painting" made up of pieces of bark, leaves, feathers, and other natural materials. The image depicts a woman in a green top and orange skirt, and carrying what is possibly a prayer stick, walking through a desert valley landscape. The work is signed by the artist in ink in the lower right corner: Pansy Stockton.

The picture is glazed and framed in a 2 7/8" wood frame constructed from an ancient Santa Fe building. On the reverse side is the artist's personalized label with her name, address, and the title of picture: PANSY STOCKTON SUN PAINTINGS / NAVAJO - HOME / IN / MONUMENT / VALLEY / ORIGINATOR - PANSY R. STOCKTON / P.O. BOX 865 / SANTA FE, NEW MEX. Also on the reverse is a typed label with a list of all the natural materials used for various parts of the picture, and the geographical sources for the material.
Label TextThis picture was presented to Eleanor Roosevelt by the artist, Pansy Stockton (aka Mrs. Howard Fatheree), in November 1953 at an event in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mrs. Roosevelt displayed the picture in her New York City apartment until her death.
