DescriptionA section cut from a brown envelope to which is adhered five cancelled Barbadian 1925/1935 purple 6d. Seal of the Colony postage stamps (Scott 174) and one cancelled Barbadian 1925/1935 red 1d. Seal of the Colony postage stamp (Scott 167), all from the personal collection of Franklin Roosevelt. The envelope piece was adhered (but is now loose) to the center of a card with printed and handwritten information in black ink that reads: Franklin D. Roosevelt Collection / The above BARBADOS 1925/35 strip 1d + 6d. (5) bearing the / auctioneer's authentication of origin is guaranteed to be / from the stamp collection of the late Franklin D. Roosevelt / London. W.1. / David Field Ltd. A red ink stamped message to the right of the envelope piece reads: FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION / AUCTIONED FEB., APRIL, 1946 BY H. R. HARMER INC., N.Y. The number "242" is written in pencil in the upper right corner, and the numbers "113" and "10" in the lower right corner.

The reverse is blank except for the number "20/[?]" written in pencil in the upper right corner.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong stamp collector who gathered over 1.2 million stamps into his personal collection during the course of his life. He began collecting stamps at the age of eight at the suggestion of his mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, who passed on her collection to him.

After FDR's death, his personal stamp collection, including these stamps, was sold at public auction in 1946 in accordance with his wishes.
