DescriptionA beige-colored air mail stamp cover from Poland addressed (handwritten in ink) to: His Excellency / The President of U.S.A. / Siz. Roosevelt !!! / Washyngton / U. S. A. The envelope is postmarked Lwow, Poland, March 11, 1937 and also has a black ink Lwow registration stamp. In the lower right corner a black ink stamped message reads: FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION / AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N. Y.

On the reverse of the envelope is the hand written Polish return address, along with three Polish stamps: one 1935-1936 violet-black 20gr View of Pieniny postage stamp (Scott 297), and two 1930 red 75gr King John III Sobieski postage stamps (Scott 262). Also on the reverse are additional Lwow, Poland postmarks, a postmark for Warszawa (Warsaw), Poland, March 13, 1937, two postmarks for New York, NY, March 22, 1937, and a postmark for Washington, DC, March 23, 1937. The circled number "R65" is written in pencil in the lower right corner, and the number "DCW-4" is written in pencil further up.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong stamp collector who gathered over 1.2 million stamps into his personal collection during the course of his life. He began collecting stamps at the age of eight at the suggestion of his mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, who passed on her collection to him.

After FDR's death, his personal stamp collection, including this stamp cover, was sold at public auction in 1946 in accordance with his wishes.
