DescriptionA 1944 campaign stamp cover with an anti-Roosevelt cachet. The white envelope bears a violet U.S. 3¢ Win the War Issue stamp (Scott 905). On the left side of the envelope is a cachet consisting of copper text that reads: Will we get a real / Freedom after the / Victory or a new / kind of despotism? The text is bordered on the left and bottom by rows of silver dots. An additional two lines of gold text above the address reads: 5-29-'44--Japs gain 7 miles in drive / on Changsha, China.
The envelope is addressed in typed lettering to: Mr. Charles Hunt / 1214 N.E. Sumner Ave / Portland / Oregon. It is postmarked Portland, Oregon, May 29, 1944. Stamped and written on the reverse of the envelope is information regarding the cachet: This Cachet Designed / and Sponsored by / WILLIAM S. LINTO / 4920 N.E. 16th Ave / PORTLAND, 11, ORE. / Cachet No. 543 / Covers Issued 45 / Cover No. 1-. To the left of this is the stamped message: 2-line cachet, at right, printed on / 12 of this patriotic.
