DescriptionA color poster featuring an illustration of an urban brick residential building with emphasis on the exterior of a doorway where various family members are exiting in excitement to greet a uniformed U.S Army soldier who has returned home and is standing facing the doorway. The scene also features a number of other people observing the scene - many with expressions of joy - in the surrounding area including on the doorway roof, adjoining landings, nearby trees, and over fences. White on blue text at the top of the poster reads: Hasten the Homecoming. White on red text at the bottom of the poster reads: BUY VICTORY BONDS. Printed at the bottom of the illustration: FROM THE SATURDAY EVENING POST COVER PAINTED / BY NORMAN ROCKWELL.
Label TextThe Norman Rockwell painting in this poster first appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post on May 25, 1945. Rockwell used a neighborhood in Troy, New York, as the setting for his painting. During its final bond drive, launched in October 1945, the Treasury Department replaced War Bonds with “Victory Bonds.”Additional Details
