On one side of the case is an oval brass plaque with engraved text that reads: "President's Flag which was flown over the / Inaugural stand on the occasion of my second / Inauguration on January 20th, 1937" / Franklin D. Roosevelt / February 10, 1937.
Label TextThis is one of two flags (MO 2002.11.1 and MO 2002.11.2) from the 1937 presidential inauguration that Franklin D. Roosevelt gave to his son and daughter-in-law, Elliott and Ruth, that same year. See MO 2002.11.3 for a memo written by FDR regarding the flags.
