DescriptionA wooden basket in the form of an American Revolutionary War snare drum replica. The exterior of the basket is painted green with horizontal bands of brown and cream around the top and bottom. Painted on the center section, and flanked by a series of red stars, is a gold and black eagle with a red shield. Issuing from the eagle’s beak is a gold and black banner on which are the words: "The Sons of Liberty." Rope is installed vertically around the circumference of the basket and held together with leather tensioners. Adhered to the reverse of the basket is a printed label that reads: “HAND DECORATED HISTORIC REPRODUCTION of American Revolutionary Snare Drum at Fort Ticonderoga, New York; Date: circa, 1776. This drum was carried by the Green Mountain Boys of Vermont, under the command of Colonel Ira Allen, brother of Ethan Allen."
Label TextThis replica of an American Revolutionary War drum was sent to Franklin D. Roosevelt in December 1941 by the maker, Hubert M. Armfield of Pasadena, California.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 25, 1942. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
