DescriptionA small bronze front-facing head of Franklin D. Roosevelt on a cube-shaped wood base painted black. Inscribed on a bronze plaque attached to the front of the base is FDR's facsimile signature: Franklin D. Roosevelt. The artist's name is inscribed on the reverse of the head: Jo DAVIDSON · WASH · 1934 ©. The manufacturer's mark is etched into the reverse bottom of the sculpture: TX [stacked vertically]. Attached to the reverse of the base is a small metal plaque with black text that reads: The base for this small replica / of Jo Davidson's 1934 original / bronze is from an oak tree / growing at the Franklin D. / Roosevelt National Historic / Site - Hyde Park, New York, 1996.
Label TextAt the end of 1933 and the beginning of 1934, Franklin Roosevelt sat several times for sculptor Jo Davidson at the White House. This bust is a miniature version of the resulting bronze bust of FDR completed by Davidson in 1934.
