DescriptionA small, round gold medal commemorating the 300th Anniversary in 1938 of the Swedish Settlement on the Delaware. The medal is surmounted by a small gold crown topped by a ring to allow for hanging.
OBVERSE: A left-facing ca. 1907 relief profile portrait of Gustav V, King of Sweden, with the artist's name below it: A • LINDBERG. Relief text above profile reads: GUSTAVUS • V • REX • SVECIAE.
REVERSE: Relief text reads: SUECIAE / NOVAE / IN • MEMORIAM / 1638 -1938. Below the inscription is the national emblem of Sweden consisting of the image of three crowns.
The medal comes in a custom blue and gold leather-covered box with a hinged lid. On the cover of the box is a gilt image of a crown. The maker's mark for C. F. Carlman of Stockholm, Sweden is stamped on the inside of the lid.
Label TextThis medal is one of two that King Gustav V of Sweden had struck in commemoration of the 300th Anniversary of the Swedish Settlement on the Delaware that was celebrated on June 27, 1938. President Roosevelt was presented with this medal when he attended the celebration in Wilmington, Delaware.
