DescriptionA gold tiara adorned with semiprecious colored stones from the Atlas Mountains. The front center section of the tiara is decorated with a small crown design flanked by two birds. Butterfly and hand designs ornament each end of the tiara. The two side sections of the tiara pivot on hinges and sport gold rings on the bottom, presumably to attach a band of some sort to hold the tiara to the head.
Label TextIn January 1943, President Roosevelt attended the Casablanca Conference in Morocco with Winston Churchill. During the conference, the Sultan of Morocco, Sidi Mohammed, presented the President with this gold tiara as a gift to First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Decorated with colored stones from the Atlas Mountains, it was once part of the Sultan’s collection of family jewels.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteLent to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1943. It was donated by Mrs. Roosevelt in December 1957.
