DescriptionA First Day of Issue stamp cover commemorating the Sesquicentennial of the United States Constitution 1937. On the left side of the white envelope is a printed purple cachet consisting of a large illustration of a lit candle with an inset illustration of the signing of the Constitution. Text in the cachet reads: 1787 1937 / UNITED STATES / CONSTITUTION / The Guiding Light of America / First / Day / Cover / SESQUICENTENNIAL. To the right of the cachet is the original ink signature and the typed title of one of Franklin D. Roosevelt's Cabinet members: Daniel C. Roper / Secretary of Commerce.
The envelope is addressed to (typed): DR. E. H. FAST / SPRING VALLEY / WISCONSIN. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1937 bright red violet 3¢ Adoption of the Constitution Sesquicentennial Issue stamp (Scott 798). The envelope is postmarked Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 17, 1937 with a FIRST DAY OF ISSUE cancellation.
