DescriptionA small model of a Native American Passamaquoddy birchbark canoe. The canoe is decorated with designs of trees, animals, people, and tipis cut into the bark.
Label TextThe maker of this model is likely Passamaquoddy artist, Tomah Joseph. Though this model has, at times, been attributed to Edwin Tappan Adney, Ted Behen (who has conducted extensive research on the canoe models created by Joseph and Adney) believes this model is a rare example made by Joseph. The model may have been a gift to Franklin Roosevelt from Gertrude Hall Pelletier of Michigan.Additional Details
