DescriptionA piece of igneous rock (possibly red obsidian) which has been cut and partially polished. The flat, polished portion of the reddish-brown stone has a natural black marking and light-colored veining that resembles of a donkey's head. The remainder of the rock has been left in its natural state.
Label TextCalvin E. Bradbury of Beverly, Grant County, Washington found, cut, and polished this stone. Grant, who had been a Democratic Committeeman in his county for 20 years, sent the polished stone to Franklin D. Roosevelt in November 1940 as evidence of a "precinct being so 'solidly' democratic that even the rocks come out with the democratic emblem."
