DescriptionA small, "V"-shaped ¼ oz. gold nugget mounted for use as a lapel pin. The pin is attached to a small piece of white cardstock on which is a handwritten and printed message in black ink that reads: To / Our Commander-in-Chief / From / G. W. BRUNDGAGE / 182 College Way / Auburn California / 10-22-42.
Label TextThis lapel pin was sent to Franklin Roosevelt, by way of Harry Hopkins, in October 1942 by Guy W. Brundage of Auburn, California. The nugget was part of a shipment of "gravel gold" from the Occidental Mine, Iowa Hill, Placer County, California that was destined for the United States Mint in San Francisco. Brundage, admiring the perfect "V" shape of the nugget, purchased it and had it mounted to a lapel pin, which he wore for a year before deciding the "Victory Nugget" should go to President Roosevelt.Additional Details
