DescriptionA scale model of a Landing Craft Personnel (Large) boat, or LCP(L). The wooden boat is painted dark gray, has a top edge bordered by roping, a brass ship's wheel, a red fire extinguisher, and a brass propeller and rudder at the bottom stern. The interior bottom of boat has access hatches covered by five removable panels. The model rests on a clear plastic cradle stand.
Label TextThese boats were manufactured in large numbers during World War II by Higgins Industries of Louisiana. In October 1942, FDR visited a New Orleans factory operated by Higgins Industries. Company founder and president Andrew Jackson Higgins later gave Roosevelt this model of a Higgins landing craft on October 6, 1943.
