DescriptionAn unused 1945-1946 non-postal cinderella stamp issued by the Council Against Intolerance. At center of the white stamp is a blue, gray, and white portrait illustration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Printed to the right of the portrait is the artist's name: BERN / HARD. Printed beneath the image is red, blue, and gray text that reads: KEEP AMERICA UNITED! / COUNCIL AGAINST / INTOLERANCE.
Label TextThis stamp is one of a group of poster stamps issued by the Council Against Intolerance (originally the Council Against Intolerance in America), an organization founded in the 1930s that promoted a wide range of civil rights. The goal of the group, as outlined in a 1944 fundraising letter, was to promote unity among Americans, to educate them to avoid prejudice and bigotry, and “… to defend our children from racial and religious hatred."
