DescriptionAn unused cover with a red, white and blue anti-Franklin D. Roosevelt cachet from the 1940 presidential campaign. The printed cachet on the white envelope features a cartoon of FDR seated at a machine, titled “WASHINGTON GAS-WORKS,” which is powering a carousel labeled “NEW DEAL MERRY-GO-ROUND” with a pennant flying from the top with the dates “1933-1941.” Seen riding horses on the carousel are Harry Hopkins, Harold Ickes, and Henry Wallace. Standing to the right of FDR is Wendell Willkie who is addressing him with the following question: “(Willkie) Now F.D.R., that you have given the boys a long ride, where have they been? Printed just below the cartoon: “Copyright Applied For / C.M.I. 1940.”
