DescriptionA gold-colored badge for the 1940 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. The piece consists of an elaborate gold-colored pinback badge section with symbolic Chicago imagery and a blue enamel rectangle with “NATIONAL COMMITTEE” in gold lettering. Hanging from the badge is a rectangular nameplate with “ASSISTANT TO THE CHAIRMAN” in blue. From the nameplate hangs an additional badge section that has an image of the U.S. Capitol dome backed by a star and the scales of justice and flanked by red, white, and blue enamel American flags. Text on the lower badge reads: “1940 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION.” The manufacturer’s information is stamped on the reverse of both badge sections: “BASTIAN BROS. CO. / ROCHESTER N.Y.”

Backing the badge is a double layer of white grosgrain ribbon suspended from the reverse side of the upper badge.
