DescriptionA round campaign lapel stud. At the center of the button is a bas relief image of a uniformed Theodore Roosevelt on horseback and wielding a sword. Text above and below the image reads: THE ROUGH RIDERS BRIGADE / 1900. The manufacturer's information is on the reverse.
Label TextIn 1900, Theodore Roosevelt was the Republican Party's successful vice presidential candidate, along with presidential candidate William McKinley. Roosevelt assumed the presidency when McKinley was assassinated in September 1901.This lapel stud was given by Theodore Roosevelt to Peter A. Johnson of Portland, Oregon in 1900. Johnson, in return, sent it to Franklin Roosevelt in September 1932.
