Descriptiona) A black leather folder. Embossed in gilt lettering on the front cover: Christmas, 1942 / from / F.D.R. The folder is custom made to fit a savings bond booklet (see b).

b) An unused cardstock and paper savings bond album. On the front of the booklet is a patriotic eagle image and the image of a Minute Man statue, along with the text: 25 / CENT / STAMP / ALBUM / For the purchase of / UNITED STATES / WAR / SAVINGS BONDS. On the reverse is printed: AMERICA / ON GUARD. The interior of the booklet contains instructions and places to adhere the stamps.
Label TextLike many Americans, the President purchased war bonds and stamps during World War II. In 1942, he gave embossed folders containing war bond stamp albums as Christmas gifts. This is one of several album and folder sets that are displayed on a rotating basis in the LEADING BY EXAMPLE exhibit in the Museum’s WORLD WAR II gallery.
