DescriptionA pair of carved wood bookends. On each of the L-shaped bookends is a partial representation of a building column, modeled after the column bases at Fort Hill, the John C. Calhoun mansion on the grounds of Clemson University. Affixed above each column is a small, circular metal seal for Clemson College that reads: CLEMSON A&M COLLEGE / FORT HILL / S.C. / INCORPORATED 1889.

Purple felt is adhered to the backs and undersides of the bookends. On the reverse of each bookend is a paper label with a typed message: THIS SET OF BOOKENDS WERE MADE OF WOOD FROM / THE GROUNDS OF THE JOHN C. CALHOUN MANSION. / THE DESIGN IS A MODEL FROM THE BASE ON THE / COLUMNS OF THE CALHOUN MANSION. One of the bookends also has a small adhesive sticker with a typed and handwritten number: D-9-7-a.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on July 20, 1940. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
