DescriptionA letter opener intricately hand carved from a single piece of wood and topped with a double-sided eagle on the handle. The maker’s information is carved on one side of the blade: “MADE BY S. DANGLER / 1939."
Label TextThis hand-carved letter opener was sent to Franklin D. Roosevelt in December 1940 by Edward Dangler on behalf of the maker, his 84-year-old father, Samuel Dangler of Long Island City, Queens, New York.
