DescriptionA large, ornate plate commemorating FDR’s presidency. The artist, Maud Lashbrook, has used a French Limoges plate (ca. 1891 - 1932) by William Guerin & Co. as a base and added various painted commemorative and patriotic text and images. On the white center of the plate are the images of the Great Seal of the United States, two crossed American flags with attached pennants, a bar of music from the song "Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean," the Flag of the President of the United States, and written text that reads “UNITED STATES / FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT.” The border of the plate is heavily decorated with an added layer of gold paint and has the wording “FDR / 1932 – 1940” at the top and bottom.
Handwritten in black ink on the reverse of the plate: "UNITED STATES. / – FLAGS – / National Ensign and Long Pennant for Man-of-War. / President's Flag / National Coat of Arms – Music – Columbia the Gem of the Ocean. / MAUD LASHBROOK." At the center of the reverse is the plate’s maker’s mark for William Guerin & Co. Also on the reverse is a paper sticker with the handwritten number “D-27-53a.”

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on July 20, 1940. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
