DescriptionA salmon-colored stamp cover commemorating Franklin D. Roosevelt’s attendance at the 1936 Inter-American Conference for Peace in Buenos Aires, Argentina by way of the U.S. Navy heavy cruiser, USS INDIANAPOLIS (CA-35). On the left side of the envelope is a blue stamped cachet consisting of an illustration of a U.S. Navy ship at sea, above which flies a dove with an olive branch in its beak. Blue stamped text on the cachet reads: “UNITED STATES NAVY / PRES. - ROOSEVELT VISITS LATIN AMERICAN NATIONS."
The envelope is addressed to (handwritten in red and blue ink): “Hon. Franklin D. Roosevelt / Washington / D. C.” Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1930 brown 1½¢ Warren G. Harding stamp (Scott 684). The envelope is postmarked U. S. S. INDIANAPOLIS, December 1, 1936 with a "PEACE CONFERENCE" cancellation.
The return address is ink stamped in blue on the reverse of the envelope: "S. E. HUTNICK, M. D. / 5933 LANSDOWNE AVENUE / WEST PHILA., PA."
