DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating Mother’s Day from the U.S. Navy battleship, USS MARYLAND (BB-46). On the left side of the envelope is a thermographic gold-colored cachet. The upper half of the cachet features an eagle with outspread wings overlaid by a banner reading “UNITED STATES FLEET,” and the words “Commemorating / Mother’s Day / ★ / 1936” below the eagle. In the lower half of the cachet is a small rope-bordered box within which has been adhered a small sepia tone photograph of the USS MARYLAND. The box is flanked by illustrations of a ship’s wheel and an anchor, and below is text that identifies the photo: “U. S. S. MARYLAND.”

The envelope is addressed to (typed): “President / Franklin D. Roosevelt / White House / Washington, D. C.” Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1934 deep violet 3¢ Mothers of America Issue stamp (Scott 737). The envelope is postmarked U. S. S. MARYLAND, May 10, 1936 with a "MOTHER'S DAY" cancellation.

The return address is ink stamped in black on the reverse of the envelope: “Improved Crosby Naval Cover Service / ORIGINAL CROSBY COVER ALBUM MFG. / P. O. Box 602 San Pedro, Calif."
