DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the June 6, 1941 launching of the U.S. Navy minelayer, USS TERROR (CM-5). On the left side of the light blue envelope is a gold-colored thermographic cachet consisting of a small illustration of a Navy ship with imagery and text that reads: “[small images of the Liberty Bell, stars, and a Navy ship] / UNITED STATES NAVY / LAUNCHING / USS TERROR / NAVY YARD / PHILADELPHIA, PA. / ---- R. C. D. 70 ----.”
The envelope is addressed to (handwritten in red and blue ink): "The President of the United States / Mr. Franklin D. Roosevelt / Washington / D. C." Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope are two U.S. 1940 bright blue green 1¢ Statue of Liberty National Defense Issue stamps (Scott 899). The envelope is postmarked Navy Yard Station, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, June 6, 1941.
The return address is ink stamped in blue on the reverse of the envelope: "S. E. HUTNICK, M. D. / 5933 LANSDOWNE AVENUE / WEST PHILA., PA."
