DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the June 6, 1941 launching of the U.S. Navy minelayer, USS TERROR (CM-5). On the left side of the envelope is a blue and red cachet consisting of an illustrated profile of a Navy ship within a decorative border featuring an eagle and anchor at the top and a naval mine at the bottom . Text above and below the ship image reads: “MINE LAYER U.S.S. TERROR / LAUNCHED IN PHILADELPHIA NAVY YARD / Cachet Sponsored by PHILADELPHIA NAVY YARD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION / JUNE 6 1941.”

The envelope is addressed to (typed): "Hon. President Franklin D. Rossevelt [sic], / Washington, D. C." There is no return address. Adhered in the upper right of the envelope is a U.S. 1938 purple 3¢ Thomas Jefferson stamp (Scott 807). The envelope is postmarked Navy Yard Station, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, June 6, 1941.
