DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the crossing of the Equator by the U.S. Navy cruiser, USS SALT LAKE CITY (CL/CA-25). On the left side of the envelope is a purple ink stamped cachet with an illustrated map of the equator flanked by two sailfish. Adhered in the center of the cachet is a small sepia tone photograph of the USS SALT LAKE CITY. Black text above, within, and below the cachet reads: “ENTERING THE DOMAIN OF NEPTUNE REX / ON BOARD / U. S. S. SALT LAKE CITY / SOUTH AMERICAN CRUISE 1936 / Ports Visited Republic Panama Valparaiso, Chile.”

The envelope is addressed to (typed): “President / Franklin D. Roosevelt / White House / Washington, D. C.” Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1936 violet 3¢ Texas Centennial Issue Alamo stamp (Scott 776). The envelope is postmarked U. S. S. SALT LAKE CITY, May 20, 1936, with a "LAT. 00 DEG. / LONG. 81 DEG." cancellation.

The return address is ink stamped in black on the reverse of the envelope: “STAMPS, COINS, CURIOS & ANTIQUE SHOP / W. G. CROSBY, U. S. NAVY RETIRED.
