DescriptionAn Art Deco-styled crystal water goblet in the Libbey “Embassy” pattern. The handcrafted goblet has a blown bowl and a tall, oblong-shaped fluted stem. Plate-etched on the bowl of the glass is a crest consisting of a stylized eagle with spread wings. Arced above the eagle are thirteen stars, and a horizontal arrow is below the eagle.
Label TextMade by the Libbey Glass Company and designed by Walter Darwin Teague and Edwin Fuerst, this crystal goblet was part of a set made specifically for the State Dining Room in the Federal Building at the 1939 New York World's Fair. The goblet’s fluted stem was inspired by the Federal Building's columns. Following the World's Fair, the set was sent to the White House in 1940. Known as the "Embassy" pattern, this style of glass – without the crest –- was sold commercially for a number of years.
