The son of Hungarian immigrants, Stevan Dohanos grew up in a steel mill town and learned to draw in correspondence courses and night classes at the Cleveland Art School. During the 1930s he painted post office murals for the Treasury Department’s Section of Painting and Sculpture. Dohanas began enjoying commercial success in the late 1930s. During the 1940s and 1950s he painted over 125 covers for "The Saturday Evening Post" and produced illustrations for other national magazines.
