DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the 1936 first U.S. air mail resumption flight from West Palm Beach, Florida. On the left side of the white envelope is a stamped blue ink cachet in the form of a box with an illustration featuring an airplane flying over a body of water bordered by a shoreline with palm trees. Text above and below the illustration reads: FIRST RESUMPTION FLIGHT / AIR MAIL SERVICE ROUTE AM 6 / JUNIOR CHAMBER-OF COMMERCE – SPONSORS / WEST PALM BEACH ~ Florida / ORIGINAL FIRST FLIGHT ROUTE AM. 25 – FEB. 9, 1931 -. Below the cachet is the original ink signature and stamped title of the West Palm Beach postmaster: O. B. Carr / POSTMASTER. Along the left side of the cachet is the original ink signature of the superintendent of air mail service: Charles P. Graddick / Supt. Air Mail Service.

A separate stamped blue ink cachet on the right side of the envelope consists of an outline illustration of the state of Florida with text inside that reads: OFFICIAL DEDICATION MORRISON FIELD / --- / DEC. 19 1396 / --- / WEST PALM BEACH FLA.

The envelope is addressed to (typed): His Excellency, / The President of the United States, / The White House, / Washington, D. C. The return address is printed in the upper left corner of the envelope: O. B. CARR / POSTMASTER / WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. dull orange 6¢ Air Mail postage stamp (Scott C19). The envelope is postmarked West Palm Beach, Florida, December 19, 1936.
Label TextFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong stamp collector who gathered over 1.2 million stamps into his personal collection during the course of his life. He began collecting stamps at the age of eight at the suggestion of his mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, who passed on her collection to him.

After FDR's death, his personal stamp collection, including this stamp cover, was sold at public auction in 1946 in accordance with his wishes.

Custodial History NoteLent to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Charles M. Abbott in 1949. It was donated as a bequest of Abbott to the Library in 1952.
