DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1934 Presidential Cruise aboard the U.S. Navy cruiser, USS HOUSTON (CL/CA-30). On the left side of the envelope is a black and red cachet consisting of an illustration of the eagle from the Great Seal of the United States in the center of a life preserver with the name of the ship “U.S.S. HOUSTON” on it. Printed in black text below the illustration: “PRESIDENT ON CRUISE TO HAWAII / Cachet Director. U.S.C.S. #145.”

The envelope is addressed to (handwritten in black ink): “The President / U.S.S. Houston.” There is no return address. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1933 violet 3¢ National Recover Act Issue stamp (Scott 732). The envelope is postmarked U.S.S. HOUSTON, July 13, 1934 with a COCOS / ISLAND" cancellation.
