Physical DescriptionA British World War II propaganda poster. The color poster consists of a large, cartoon-like illustration of a German U-boat moving in open water towards a ship convoy in the distance, visible by the smoke issuing from the vessels. Black and red text at the top and bottom of the poster reads: PROBABLY U SMOKE / CONVOYS HAVE BEEN SEEN 36 MILES AWAY BY THEIR SMOKE. The artist's facsimile initials and the date are in the lower right of the illustration: JE 1941.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on September 17, 1941. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
