Behind him is an image of a battlefield on the left side, and on the right side is an image of a hospital room with a nurse tending to a patient The artist's facsimile signature is in the lower right corner of the image: DOUGLASS. Text across the top of the poster reads: SERVE THOSE WHO SERVED. Below the image, on a black background, is light green and red text that says: Nurses are needed in VETERANS ADMINISTRATION HOSPITALS / Write to MEDICAL DIRECTOR, VETERANS ADMINISTRATION, Washington 25, D.C. or U.S. CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION, Washington 25, D. C.

Printed in small text along the bottom of the poster: U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1945—O-655862.

On the reverse side of the poster is printed text, headed by "VETERANS ARE FIGHTING MEN . . .," that explains the need for nurses in veteran care facilities and how prominent display of the poster, with artwork by Douglas [sic] Crockwell, will contribute to the cause.
