Physical DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon featuring Franklin D. Roosevelt's Scottish terrier dog, Fala. The cartoon is of an outdoor scene showing Fala standing on a path bordered by shrubbery. He is scolding a cat crouched off to the side with its tail whirling around in the air in an agitated manner. The dome of the U.S. Capitol is visible in the background. The artist's signature is in the lower right corner of the cartoon: ALAN FOSTER. The caption is typed and handwritten on a slip of paper adhered below the cartoon: "Now, now – none of that commando stuff!". The cartoon sheet has several publication notes written in pencil including the number "6909".
Historical NoteFrom 1942-1944, American illustrator and cartoonist Alan Foster created a series of cartoons, titled "Mr. Fala of the White House," for Collier's magazine. This cartoon appeared on page 47 of the December 11, 1943 issue of Collier’s.
