Physical DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon featuring Franklin D. Roosevelt's Scottish terrier dog, Fala. The cartoon is an outdoor scene showing Fala seated on grass and flanked by two standing uniformed soldiers on the left, and a small turtle on the right who is speaking to Fala. They are all facing a tank in the background. The artist's signature is in the lower left corner of the cartoon: ALAN FOSTER. The caption is typed on a slip of paper adhered below the cartoon: "My ancestors invented the tank!" Attached to a piece of cardboard.

The cartoon comes with a cardstock backer to which it was once attached but now is separate. The backer has several publication notes written in pencil. On the reverse of the backer are additional publication notes and a blue ink stamped Liberty magazine form with handwritten red pencil information filled in: LIBERTY ART DEPT. / MACFADDEN PUBLICATIONS, INC. / SUBJ. CARTOON / ISSUE SEPT - 19th - 1942 / PAGE 58 -- / INSERT No. 1.
Historical NoteIn 1942, American illustrator and cartoonist Alan Foster created a series of cartoons, titled "Fala," for Liberty magazine. This cartoon appeared in the September 19, 1942 issue of Liberty.
