Physical DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon featuring Franklin D. Roosevelt's Scottish terrier dog, Fala. The cartoon is an outdoor scene showing Fala seated on exterior steps at the White House. He is conversing with a dachshund who is wearing a vest with the "V for Victory" motto on it: V / • • • − ["V" in Morse Code]. The Washington Monument is seen in the background. The artist's signature is in the lower right corner of the cartoon: A. S. FOSTER. The caption is handwritten in pencil below the cartoon: "COLONEL SCHULTZ OF THE 'FREE DACHSHUNDS' I BELIEVE." The cartoon sheet has a publication measurement written in pencil on it.
Historical NoteIn 1942, American illustrator and cartoonist Alan Foster created a series of cartoons, titled "Fala," for Liberty magazine. This cartoon appeared in the May 23, 1942 issue of Liberty.
