Physical Descriptiona) A hand colored woodblock print reproduction in brown ink. It depicts the title page of the book of marriages at the Jemez mission. At the top is a quote in Spanish: Libro De Casamientos / de la mision de Sn. Diego de los Xemez, puso lo / el P'e. Fr. Carlos Delgado, Pred'ov, Hotario del S'to / ofi'no de la Inquisission, enquatro de Agosto de / milsetecientos yueinte anos, constas de sesento fixay / conlaprimeray lariltima. Below and bordering the quote are elaborate designs made up of flower drawings. The artist is not indicated. The number "1" is typed in the lower left corner.

b) A red leather portfolio entitled: Portfolio of Spanish Colonial Design in New Mexico. It is the series portfolio for a collection fifty painted woodblocks and prints (MO 1956.237.1-50) giving some of the background of Colonial New Mexico.

c) A 40-page series booklet, titled: Portfolio of Spanish Colonial Design in New Mexico / Prepared by the Federal Art Project of New Mexico of the Division of Women's and Professional Projects, Works Project Administration, Santa Fe, 1938.
Historical NoteThis print is from the Portfolio of Spanish Colonial Design, edited by E. Boyd for the Federal Art Project of New Mexico. The portfolio is comprised of a set of 50 (MO 1956.237.1-50) hand-pulled, watercolored woodblock and linocut prints depicting examples of Spanish Colonial decorative arts dating from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century. The folio concentrates on religious art, and includes renderings of bultos (sculptures), altars, furniture, architectural details, and other objects. Two hundred copies of the portfolio were made, each with 50 prints.

The prints were created by artists employed by the Federal Art Project of New Mexico. None of the artists are indicated on the artwork, but they include: Mary Baca, Nash Bachicha, Jean Barka, Maye Barris, Charles Barrows, Mae Bennett Brown, Stanley Carson, and Carlos Cervantez. The portfolio also includes a 40-page booklet giving some of the background of Colonial New Mexico and printed descriptions of the plates.
