Physical Description1) A U-shaped letter holder covered in red, blue, green, and cream flower and leaf patterned fabric. The two interior sides of the holder are lined with black, leather-like textured material, and the underside is lined with black felt. The holder is accompanied by the following items that were at one time stored in it:
2) An Italian-made notecard with a color illustration of St. Francis on the front and the text of “A Simple Prayer” by St. Francis on the reverse. The notecard was sent to Eleanor Roosevelt by Victoria Lyles, January 24, 1962.
3) An unused piece of 1955 Air Letter Aerogramme stationery with a printed U.S. 10 cent air mail stamp (Scott UC16d).
4) 25 sheets of unused white stationery with Eleanor Roosevelt's name and address printed in blue at the top of each sheet: "MRS. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT / 55 EAST 74TH STREET / NEW YORK CITY 21, N. Y."
5) 24 unused white envelopes with Eleanor Roosevelt's name and return address printed in blue on the reverse of each: "MRS. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT / 55 EAST 74TH STREET / NEW YORK CITY.”
Historical NoteThis letter holder is part of a four-piece set (MO 1990.7.7a-d) used on the desk in Eleanor Roosevelt's bedroom in her 74th Street apartment in New York City.2) An Italian-made notecard with a color illustration of St. Francis on the front and the text of “A Simple Prayer” by St. Francis on the reverse.
