DescriptionA Chinese watercolor painting on pith paper showing a river scene. A narrow river is shown, flanked by a shoreline on either side. On the larger left shore are a series of small buildings, some attached, including one just by the waterfront and next to a wooden footbridge. The bridge crosses high over the water to the opposite grassy and wooded shoreline. A traditional Chinese boat is out on the river, and several figures are visible throughout the scene.

The painting is adhered to a larger piece of silk gauze and mounted within a window mat.
Label TextThis painting is one in a collection of twenty-seven individual Chinese watercolors (MO 1979.50.1-27) featuring birds, fish, and landscape scenes. The collection is housed in a custom clamshell box on the spine of which is embossed, "F. D. R. / CHINESE RICE PAPER PAINTINGS."
