DescriptionA Chinese watercolor painting on pith paper showing an inlet scene. In the forefront of the scene is a narrow body of water, flanked on either side by a shoreline, that leads to a larger body of water in the background. On the left shore sits a small, hut-like building with an extension on one side and an attached pavilion on the other side. A stone stairway leads from the building down to the waterfront on which is a traditional Chinese boat. The shoreline on the right side has a grouping of trees. Several figures are seen across the scene.
The painting is adhered to a larger piece of silk gauze and mounted within a window mat.
Label TextThis painting is one in a collection of twenty-seven individual Chinese watercolors (MO 1979.50.1-27) featuring birds, fish, and landscape scenes. The collection is housed in a custom clamshell box on the spine of which is embossed, "F. D. R. / CHINESE RICE PAPER PAINTINGS."The painting is adhered to a larger piece of silk gauze and mounted within a window mat.
